Beautiful Piece of Music
Although I have listened to many pieces of music that related to me on a personal level, the most beautiful album I've ever heard is Disintegration by the Cure. The Cure was a pop band from the 80's, who were known for making radio singles. They went in a different direction with Disintegration, however. Every song has simple chord progressions and repetitive bass lines, but the album is driven by layered melodies. Every song uses multiple guitars and keyboards, all of which are playing different melodies in the same key. This effect creates texture, much like a painter who uses countless colors in his art. Hearing this album changed how I think of music, and how I write music. It taught me how to think beyond the simple melody, and how to delve deeper into a song.
